Research and Development

Telemedicine Videoconferencing: Under grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Institute on Aging, Microdesign has developed a set-top box to be installed in patient homes to allow videoconferencing using internet connections.

Our Phase I project, Group Tele-Exercise for Improving Balance in Elders was described in the journal of the American Telemedicine Association Telemedicine and eHealth.

Our Phase II randomized controlled study, Comparison of Telecommunication, Community, and Home-Based Tai Chi Exercise Programs on Compliance and Effectiveness in Elders at Risk for Falls was published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in June of 2010.

Software Development

Tandberg Codian Controller: Automated switch functions for the Tandberg Codian 4205 Video multi-point control unit.

Database Integration:
Integrate state Office of Professional Regulation nursing data with national database.
Database Integration:
Integrate a non-profit’s MIS with state and federal funding information.

Osteoporosis Scanner Diagnosis Program: Integrate scan results from a GE DEXA bone density scanner with patient questionnaire data to predict susceptibility for developing osteoporosis or suffering fractures. The program combines data to create a physician letter which gave summary statistics, and recommendations for each patient.

Quick Applications: Microdesign QuickApps are low-cost, quick turnaround, software development projects which provide an especially high return on investment. Development time is typically a few days or weeks. Examples: Web-based Time Card applications, RMA workflow manager.

Planning and Assessment

Technical Assessment: Conduct technical assessments for an international education institution in the U.S., Austria and Croatia. Develop and implement plans for IT budget, staffing and networking infrastructure to provide secure connections between U.S. and European offices.

Digital Media Development Laboratory: Create a Digital Media Development Laboratory for developing media and course material for on-line college credit and non-credit courses to deliver to the desktop.
