Our company started out as a database and networking company. A couple years after we had been in business, a researcher from our local state university’s Department of Physical Therapy came to us with a classic problem:

We have an effective therapeutic (or wellness or other healthcare) intervention that can be delivered within groups or gatherings of patients. We would like to extend this to patients who are unable or unwilling to travel to a community-based setting, and who would benefit from the intervention by participating at home.

We can’t get to the patients

In this particular case, the affected group were patients over 65 who had fallen or had a fear of falling, which is a major problem for seniors. In close collaboration with the medical professional, and the patients themselves we designed the DocBox, a set-top box that attaches to the patient’s home TV.

Details are in this paper. We have additional videos available if you are interested.

Other DocBox applications:
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), using Yoga
  • Distance Education Diabetes Education Program
